Buying a vehicle is a big purchase – you want to make sure your . Taking a test drive is the best way to make sure you are happy with the vehicle’s handling, braking, infotainment system, comfort, utility, functionality, and the overall driving experience.
All you’ll need is your current driver’s license. If that’s unavailable, you can have someone else accompany you for the test drive as long as they have a valid driver’s license.
Valid Driver’s license, proof of insurance and payment. If you need financing, then in addition to the mentioned items, you may also need additional documents as required by the lender such as proof of income, residence, etc. If you have specific questions relating to required items, please contact a team member for further assistance.
Non-Financed Purchases only require the state minimum level of coverage. Proof of insurance showing the vehicle being purchased has been added to a policy would be the only requirement. If financing a vehicle with a lender, you’ll most likely need ‘Full comprehensive coverage’ with the lender being listed as the Loss Payee / Lien Holder. Full auto insurance coverage is the industry standard for financed vehicles.

Upon reviewing your credit application, our team will work with lenders to find the best offers available for your situation. In some cases, based on limited credit or other factors, a co-signer may be needed. This can be a spouse, family member or a friend. It’s important to note that while you may need a co-signer for financing, both parties on the application are still responsible for the loan. Required down payments are set by the lender and vary based on vehicle, age, and applicant’s credit. In some cases, down payments can vary from $500 and up.
We’re always happy to help customers with all credit types to obtain financing. Our sales experts work closely with many different lenders to find the right financing for your situation. Traditional lenders or banks usually seek a FICO credit score of 660 or higher while finance companies usually seek scores of 515 or higher. Regardless of your situation, our goal is to help get all customers approved!
Each sale varies but, in most cases, you may be able to finance not only the purchase price of the vehicle but also GAP insurance and extended service contracts (warranties.) Our sales team can go over available options if you wish to add any of these products.
Payments for vehicle financing are always paid to the lender who services your account. The dealership will not collect your monthly payment.

As a pre-owned dealership, a large amount of our inventory comes from New Dealer Trades. We work closely with Big Box dealerships who normally focus on new vehicle sales. We’re able to obtain a variety of vehicles with extensive service history backgrounds and records. We also like to buy local and obtain vehicles that were locally owned. In addition, we also obtain inventory from our own customers who are trading in.
All of our pre-owned vehicles undergo a thorough inspection and reconditioning process to ensure that they meet our high standards for quality and safety.
Simply fill out our contact form with your vehicle info and details, and we will reach out to you for a time to bring it in. Once we look it over, you will get an official trade-in value. We can review vehicles remotely based off VIN, history, miles, and condition but final trade value will always require a visual inspection.
Normally, all that’s required is your vehicle’s title. However, if a balance is owed, we ask that you obtain your lender’s 10- or 15-day payoff statement so we can handle the payoff in a timely manner and make sure the final deal is booked correctly. Most lenders offer self-service so you can obtain this via your lender’s account management online or via app. If needed, lenders will also provide this via phone if you contact them. Cars of Kentucky is not a service dealership. While all vehicles are serviced and inspected prior to arriving on our lot, we do not service vehicles post-sale. If you require servicing or maintenance, we have some great local business recommendations for you. Ask a team member for assistance!
We suggest having a list of items or priorities you’re seeking in your next vehicle. When driving, make sure you’re comfortable in the vehicle and it suits your immediate needs such as third row, towing capacity, etc. We also suggest making sure you’re comfortable with the ease of use of tech features and the general driving experience.
Vehicles are offered “AS IS” with no expressed warranties or guarantees unless listed in writing. Most purchases include a 90 Day Powertrain Warranty included with purchase at no additional cost, however this is a third-party warranty and offers specific limited coverage. This does not apply to vehicles with an original manufacturer warranty remaining. Additional warranty options may be available. See a team member for additional information.
Post Sale
Normally 3-4 weeks post sale, our titles team will mail out your registration and if applicable license plate. From there, within 4-6 weeks, the state will mail you your title. This is all sent to the address provided during the sale. If these timeframes are exceeded, please reach out to our team [LINK] and we’ll be happy to look into your concern further.
Temp tags or permits are issued while your vehicle’s registration is being completed. Temp tags are normally set to expire 60 days from your purchase date. Unforeseen delays may cause your title work to take longer than expected. Please contact us to check status and to obtain a new temp tag if needed.
If you are under six weeks post sale, it’s most likely still being processed by the state. However, if it’s been past six weeks post sale, then it could have been lost in the mail. In Kentucky, returned titles are sent to your local county clerk’s office. Please reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.
No worries! You can normally obtain valid copies of your registration and/or title from your local county clerk’s office. If you’re unsure where to start, please contact us and we’ll be happy to assist you.
Warranty information is always included with your sales packet. We ask all customers to keep sale documents and warranty information in the vehicle until you’ve received your registration. However, if you need to confirm warranty information prior, it should always have the relevant information in your sales packet.
For vehicles still covered by original manufacturer warranty (bumper to bumper, drivetrain, etc) – please see the nearest manufacturer dealership for assistance. Most branded dealerships (i.e. Honda, Toyota) will be able to handle any warranty claim with the original manufacturer warranty regardless of where you purchased or located.
If your sale included an aftermarket warranty (service contract) provided by ASC Warranty or ProGuard Warranty Services, you or your service advisor from your desired repair shop can contact the provider directly for assistance

Our goal is for all customers to be 100% comfortable, satisfied, and happy with their purchase prior to leaving the lot. Once a purchase is complete, the vehicle is now yours. Customers who wish to improve their financing situation for a purchase such as obtaining a better interest rate, paying off early and so on are encouraged to contact the lender of your purchase. Your original lender may be able to offer refinancing options and explore all offers to improve your financing situation based on available offers and your current credit and financial background.
At this time, we currently do not do out of state title work (i.e. licensing and registering vehicles out of the state of Kentucky. Nor do we collect sales tax and other applicable fees for out-of-state purchases. When you’ve purchased a vehicle and plan to have it licensed in another state once your payment has cleared your title and appliable paperwork is overnighted to you to process in your home state.
